CHELSEA LARGE BRONZE SHIPS CLOCK Ca 1945
Marine Wardroom, Engine Room or Bridge
Price $995.00 plus $25.00 shipping to 48 contiguous States
Presented is a rare large size Chelsea
ship's clock which was made during the closing days of WWII. Starting in 1943, Chelsea government models began to be offered
to the commercial “Marine” market in a 6 and 8 1/2 inch size. This one was most likely for a merchant
ship. It is housed in a large bronze case, and is keeping perfect time when compared to a quartz time piece. The serial
number of the 12 E movement is 490968 which dates from 1945. There are no marks on the 10 inch case. Clocks like
these were used in a wardroom, engine room or on the bridge, and in 1947 were named the “Timemaster“ series.
The clock has a large
8 1/2 inch brass 12 hour dial which has developed a nice brown patina of age. The Arabic numerals and inscriptions are
etched in black. Below the 12 O'clock position is CHELSEA CLOCK COMPANY * BOSTON, USA. The clock features a spear minute and spade hour hand, and a moon style sweep seconds hand. A
Fast/Slow wheel adjustment is at 3 O'clock. The classic 8 day eleven jeweled 12 E movement is housed within
the a forged bronze case that has a screw on bezel 101/4 inches in diameter. The precision, all jeweled
movement and serial number date this clock to 1945. It weighs just over 11 pounds. A key is included.
