Presented is a GENERAL'S beaver chapeau or full dress cocked hat with a gold bullion tassel at the fore peak and displaying at the right center a 1 1/2" x 2 1/4" black cockade with mounted crossed rifle insignia of 5/8" x 1 5/8". On either side of the cockade are 1 3/8" gold bullion bands forming a "V". They are repeated on the reverse so two gold bands are displayed on each side. On the hat's crown are mounted three Ostrich feathers starting behind the bullion tassel and ending at the hat's tail end.

SIZE & CONDITION: The hat measures 16" in length by 4 7/8" in height, not including the plumes and is 4" wide. It is constructed with a black silk liner and a 2" leather sweatband which is split on the right side. The label at the center inside top has been removed and some fraying remains. There is minor evidence of wear to the Beaver felt in a few places on the left side and along the bottom edge and at the fore peak it is worn off. The same for the right side. The chapeau evidences wear at inner rims; one ribbon is separated in two areas and frayed. The gold bullion is slightly tarnished, but all is intact. The ostrich feathers are in good condition and intact.
