FIGUREHEAD OF KING FRANCISCO OF SPAIN (1846-1868)

Presented is a hand carved figurehead of Don Francisco Assis de Bourbon (1822-1902) husband and king consort to Queen Isabella II of Spain (1846-1868). Nothing is known of the origin of this figurehead other than it was purchased in Spain . Don Francisco was appointed Captain-General of the Spanish Army by the queen. In 1870 King Francisco and Queen Isabella II abdicated in favor of their son Alfonso XII. The likelihood is that the figurehead dates from around 1850, but it could be earlier.

This is a magnificent figurehead that will make a striking appearance in any surroundings and add a touch of majesty to the room it graces.

Don't be fooled by it clean stripped pine looks since on careful inspection the remnants of its original paint can be seen in the close-up pictures. This is guaranteed to be an authentic figurehead.
