Here we have a whimsically stylized folk art figure of a 19th Century sailor taking a celestial sight. It appears to be carved from one sold block of oak, including the stand and sextant.
Recently acquired in the normal course of business, we were unable to find any historical information about this fine work of nautical folk art. Given the dress and rustic countenance, we’re assuming sometime during the19th century.
SPECIFICATIONS:
24" H x 10" W x 4" Base: 7 1/2" x 4" Weight: 9 lbs. MAKER: Unknown
Painted on the base are the coordinates Lat 42º 26’ N - Long 70º, 57’ W. We‘ve located this position as Nahant, MA., and will make the assumption that the figure was carved by an individual in that town.

This is a great nautical folk art piece and would make a wonderful addition to any maritime collection or decor.
