CHELSEA WW II U.S. NAVY 24 HOUR RADIO ROOM/ENGINE ROOM BULKHEAD CLOCK
Serial No.372636 - Dating from 1940-1944 WW II Period
Presented is a very rare, vintage U.S. Navy 24 hour Radio Room/Engine Room bulkhead clock, Serial No. 372636, produced by Chelsea Clock Company during the WW II period. This is a n 11 jewel, 8 day movement, although we find that it runs for almost two weeks on a single wind. For best time keeping, it is best to wind these clocks once a week.
The serial number dates it from 1940-1944. It is housed in a black phenolic case with a black face and clear white numbering, and is in pristine condition. Metal shortages and scarcity during the war mandated that the clocks for the military during this period switched from the bronze & brass cases to phenolic.
This fine clock is in excellent condition with face and hands showing only minor age.. The case shows very little age, and someone has engraved the movement number on the back plate. The clock has been recently serviced, and the movement is keeping excellent time.
This clock will make a suitable gift or is worthy of inclusion in a collection of fine marine clocks.
