Early U.S. NAVY FORE DECK - ANCHOR BELL Repaired Crack   PRE WW I Polished & Lacquered Bell      Presented is a very rare Ca 1900 Navy bell with the signature double bands that signify its age. Unfortunately, it has a crack in the front that runs from the lower band down between the U. S. all the way to the rim as can be seen in the above picture and others below. This was disclosed to us at the time we bought it. These bells have become so scarce that we thought it would be worth the effort to try and repair it. It was taken to a metals expert who used low temperature silver solder which is the recommended procedure to braze the crack from the inside. The bell which was flat, now rings with distinction over most all other bells, but with not quite the same degree of resonance as a Navy bell is noted for. We have placed it for sale at a much lower price than what a comparable Navy bell would sell for which makes it affordable to someone who wants an authentic antique bell, but does not want to pay the high prices they bring today. NOW HARD TO FIND: U.S. Navy bells of this unique design are becoming very scarce, and difficult to find. The earlier bells dating from before WW I like this one are scarcer still. The use of a special "bell metal" formula produces a clear, sharp ring and sets up a strong reverberation that has a strong resonance that once heard will never be forgotten. It has been repaired to where the bell now rings quite well, but does not resonate as long as a normal Navy bell. It has a few dings on the outside and some minor irregular imperfections elsewhere.  It has been newly polished and lacquered. The bracket's base has a small notch cut out.
