This Rare Light Has Been Sold. Thank you!
GIANT BLUE LENS STEERING LIGHT
ONE ONLY
Very Rare!
PRESENTED is
what we believe to be the largest marine navigation "Steering" light that Perkins Marine Hardware of Miami, FL ever
made. It is not recorded in Anthony Hobson's, "Lanterns That Lit Our World", Gold Hill Press, 2004, even though
a chapter is devoted to the Perkins Company from its inception.
Lights like
these were used during WW II at the stern of the vessel and were known as "Convoy" lights. Today, blue lights are only for
law enforcement and do not appear in the Navigation Rules of the Road commonly referred to as COLREGS. However, a blue steering
light is still being used in Panamas where it is required for vessels over 328 ft in length. It is mounted at the bow not
the stern, and serves as a range light.
This
light is 20 3/4" high including the 2" bail (handle), 9 1/4" wide and 9 1/2" deep. The area of the lens is
6 1/4" x 6 1/4". It came from the maker with both an electric lighting system as well as the old style kerosene burner
which we have never had the pleasure to sell together before.
We have two
Perko side lights of similar bulk which would make a great companion setting. Click here http://landandseacollection.com/id416.html

MARINE LAMP & HDWR CORP
Miami,
FL., U.S.A.
Starting
in 1904, Perko made all kinds of lights under their
original name, "Persky". In 1916, they incorporated under the name Perkins Marine Lamp Corporation in Brooklyn,
NY. In 1931 the name was changed to Perkins Marine Lamp & Hardware Corporation. In 1961, the Brooklyn facilities
were closed and operations were moved to Miami, FL. Perkins was dropped from the name and the company became known as PERKO
Inc. It was in 1916 that the Perko trademark was registered, and it has been used ever since. The company still makes
high quality marine lights and hardware out of its Miami, FL facilities.
For those that like polished copper, you have to love this light since nothing else
will compare to its grandeur.
