ANTIQUE U.S. EAGLE HEADED SWORD
War of 1812?
Offered is a 27" straight blade, eagle headed War of 1812 sword. It's
double edged blade has no engravings or markings as was sometimes the practice. The silvered brass, bone or antler, hilt has
a stirrup-form knuckle-guard with a large flared cross-guard that has a shield with the crest of
the American eagle.
The forward arm of the knuckle guard is bent slightly forward which has loosened the rear
peg and pommel. That sword should be straightened by an expert and the handle tightened on its shaft. As is, in a static
display this is not noticed. The blade's surface is smooth, untouched, with very little age spotting or imperfections.
There is a black spot adjacent to the cross guard and two minor blemishes towards the point. The companion brass scabbard with
frog is in excellent condition.
Overall length of the sword without scabbard is 33 3/4",
with scabbard 35".
This is a nice example of an eagle headed War
of 1812 American sword at a reasonable price
