16 INCH REVOLUTIONARY NAVY SHIP'S IRON LONG CANNON

Presented is an exceptional cast iron miniature cannon of the type that was on the gun decks of ship's of the line during the time of the American Revolutionary Navy. It is a reproduction with outstanding attention to detail of the 12 pound cannons on frigates of the Continental Navy such as the USS Constitution which are picture here. The small 8 inch cannon is shown for size comparison and is not included in the offer.

Models like this were made as a presentation piece or as a foundry replica of its products. This one has no foundry markings. Its bore does not extend to the touch hole so it can not be fired. The carriage, and its fittings are correct for this type barrel. It has the characteristics of the most noteworthy examples of miniature cannons of this period and type which include:

CONDITION: The barrel is realistic and is nicely cast. It replicates a U.S. Navy 12 pounder of our Revolutionary Navy. It is equal in quality to the most expensive iron barrels that we have seen in cannons of this type. The carriage is made of Mahogany in keeping with the quality of the tube.  The trunnions are at the lower section of the barrel. The trunion caps are heavy. There are no foundry or other markings.
