Presented is a carefully crafted sailor made diorama
resulting in an exceptionally realistic scene. The model is housed in a glazed wooden case with original glass. Block waterline
models of this type, were made as a spare time occupation of sailors at sea. They varied in their exactness to the ship's
design since plans were not available and the quality of the workmanship. However, the sailors were exacting in the placement
of the vessel's sails and rigging. This is a fine one and in remarkably good condition with everything in place.
Note: Taking pictures through antique glass which
is wavy with ripples is challenging. They do not do justice to how impressive this model looks.

Finely crafted hull and deck houses | |
This three masted full rigged waterline model with black hull and white trim is
sailing on a simulated sea with a small village, with lighthouse, in the foreground to starboard, and a pilot cutter to port.
The ship fly's the British red ensign from her spanker's gaff, and above it, on the mizzen truck, Code Flag November. On her
main mast truck is the owner's house flag which is undistinguishable, and on her foremast truck fly's Code Flag Papa. These
flags' colors and meaning were as of the period. The blue, grey sky and clouds are painted on the seascape background. The
paper sails are nicely formed and have detailed and proper running rigging.
