It is a 3 light commercial helmet made by the Craftsweld Equipment Corporation and carries serial number 1734 on the rectangular maker's plate. From the current owner of the Schrader name and records, this dates the helmet to 1982. The helmet has 99% of its tinning remaining with some of the surface rubbed off from storage and handling.  There is a large round speaker cup on the left side imprinted Craftsweld on the outside surface. There is no spit cock fitted. As should be expected, there are some minor surface abrasions, but there are no dents. We hesitated to polish this helmet, but imagine it could be come a very attractive display. It should not be dived without having passed inspection by a certified dive shop.  Back of the Craftsweld dive helmet     CONDITION:  The front door unscrews and the exhaust valve wheel turns. The air passages are all intact. The chin button is in place and functions. The brails are original to the breast plate. There is a speaker in the comm cup. No tests have been made to this helmet so it needs to be certified by a dive shop before using. Maker's tag and serial number of the Craftsweld Commercial dive helmet MARKINGS: The Craftsweld name tag reads A product of Craftsweld Equipment Company, Long Island City, NY 11101, Made in the U.S.A. Then the serial number, 1734. All on six lines. The name "Craftsweld is imprinted on the face of the speaker cup. The name Craftsweld is imprinted on the through shell bonnet communication fitting. They produced equipment for welding, cutting and diving. They were located at 2625 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City 1, New York, USA. Craftsweld purchased Schrader in 1952 . It was their preference to use the Craftsweld name on the commercial helmets they produced, but they also retained the Schrader name over the years. In 1958, upon the death of Charles Kandel, his two sons, Richard and Robert, took over the business. They operated it until their retirement in 1999.
