This Rare Relic Has Been Sold. Thank you! ENGLISH 2 3/4 INCH TERRESTRIAL & CELESTIAL POCKET GLOBE UNSIGNED 18th CENTURY    Compare at Twice the Price! GLOBE SIZE 2 3/4 inch diameter                                         WEIGHT 3 1/4 ounces Presented is an outstanding example of a 2 3/4 inch pocket globe that dates back to the 18th Century. It is stored in a round wood sphere with shagreen covering. The edges of the case are painted rust, with a brass hook and eye.  On the globe, between Asia and North America, there is a rectangle with black border marked, "A correct GLOBE with new discoveries". The areas of the land and ocean are hand colored with engraved regions and the two undefined polar caps. The equatorial line is graduated in degrees west of Greenwhich and the celestial ecliptic is graduated in days of the houses of the zodiac. Shagreen covered circular storage case showing hinge and the age cracks filled in earlier The oceans have a wind rose in the southern Indian Ocean, various trade wind arrows and the tracks of Cook's 1760 voyage, the Antarctic has no land shown, a small piece of coastline south of the Cape of Good Hope is labeled Cape Circumcision. The continents are delicately shaded and outlined in green, pink, yellow and orange and show major rivers, cities and some mountains and forests in pictorial relief. Australia is labeled NEW HOLLAND and shows Tasmania as a promontory labeled Dimen's Land. Africa lists NEGROLAND and the Coast of the Cafers. North West America is labeled Parts Unknown and with no defined northern coastline. The globe is stored in its original sharkskin covered spherical case, with the interior laid with two sets of twelve hand-colored engraved celestial spheres and two polar caps laid to the celestial poles. The stars shown in a table to six orders of magnitude, the constellations depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments. There is a rectangle in the northern hemisphere with black border marked, "A correct GLOBE with new constellations of Dr. Halley& Co.".   America with parts unknown and misshapen Florida  In all our years of collecting antique instruments, this is one of the rarest examples of an 18th Century work we've come across.  Box reads: "A Correct GLOBE With The New Discoveries"     Africa showing Negroland and the equator and equinoctial bands       CONDITION: The shagreen covered shell that the globe is housed in has earlier repaired cracks that date back to when it was acquired 60 some years ago.  The globe has a few tiny losses of varnish which show as white spots. It has a band of darken one half inch on either side of he equator from handling. At the North pole there is a 1/8 inch loss of varnish. A careful cleaning by an expert would liven up the colors. There is a hole at either pole for use with a small dowel to inspect it. (Not included). Considering its 300 plus year age, it is in very good condition.   Both celestial spheres shown over the Northern hemisphere FLAT RATE SHIPPING & PACKING to 48 contiguous States to be determined based on destination.
