SETH THOMAS WW II SHIPS BELL U.S. MARITIME COMMISSION BRASS BULKHEAD CLOCK     The stand, a $75.00 value, is included!   Presented is a very rare, vintage, eight day, striking bell clock with a 6" black face that was made for the U.S. Maritime Commission by Seth Thomas, and carries the number 19698 on its face. It has a 115 A, 7 Jewel movement which is stamped, Patent Oct 25,  1921 and dated 1-44. This is the equivalent to Chelsea's similar design, both being made to the same WW II military specifications. The mechanism is housed in a very heavy, forged bronze deep case with screw on bezel which has a maximum diameter of 7 3/4" at the rear, and is 4" deep. It is keeping excellent time compared to a the National Bureau of Standards time and the bells' ring in the correct sequence. The stand is  included at no additional charge.   Near flawless face over the back view with hammer adjustment plate CONDITION: This fine clock is in remarkable condition and shows only the normal patina of age. It has a movement which is bright and clean and the dial is near blemish free. The case shows some minor marks of handling. The clock has been recently serviced by a master clock smith, and the movement is keeping very good time and rings the ships' bells in the correct sequence, with a strong resonance and distinctive tone. Since it is almost 70 rears old, we recommend it be wound about every four days for best timekeeping.                                             Example of the No. 115 Seth Thomas' Ship's Bell type movement PROVENANCE: From a former submariner's private clock collection. The black dial is acid etched and filled in white with Arabic numerals and Arial lettering. The precision made 8 day, No.115 movement has 7 jewels, and a compensated balance wheel and Breguet hairspring and spade style hands which have been repainted.
